Crockpot Pulled Pork

Crockpot Pulled PorkThis is another ridiculously easy crockpot recipe.  I mean, it doesn’t get much simpler than putting meat in the crockpot, adding a little red wine vinegar and Liquid Smoke and turning the thing on.  The only real work comes in shredding the meat and, I guess, stirring in the barbecue sauce.  Really, this is perfect when you just can’t be bothered… but, still want something delicious.

And you can do a lot of different things with the 10 servings you’ll get out of this recipe!  Make a sandwich one day… plop the pork on top of a salad another…. or just eat it by itself.

You can take it up a notch by making your own barbecue sauce (there’s a great recipe on  But after a few times making our own sauce, I decided the ingredients in the Trader Joe’s barbecue sauce were close enough to what we were using that it was worth not having to deal with the molasses anymore. (A variation that we make on this recipe is Hot Honey Pork — instead of barbecue sauce, make a mixture that’s 2 parts chicken or beef broth to 1 part honey and 1 part hot sauce. Eliminate the garlic powder, liquid smoke and red wine vinegar and add the sauce to the crockpot at the start. This will, of course, change your macros.)


5 pounds boneless pork tenderloin
Garlic powder
Sea salt
Ground pepper
1 T Liquid Smoke (this is what makes it smell so good as it cooks all day!)
1 T red wine vinegar
1 bottle Trader Joe’s barbecue sauce (or any sauce you prefer… about 18 ounces)


Put the pork in the slow cooker and season to your taste with salt, pepper and garlic powder.

Add Liquid Smoke and red wine vinegar.

Cover and cook on high for 6 hours.  It may feel strange to just be putting the pork in the slow cooker without any liquid or anything… you’ll be shocked in 6 hours at how much liquid has come out of the pork!

Move the pork to a large dish or platter and reserve a few cups of the liquid before discarding the rest.

Shred the pork with two forks (or with Bear Paw Meat Handlers, as seen in the photo and one of the most fun kitchen gadgets of all time!).

Put the pork back in the slow cooker and add the barbecue sauce.  Stir well.  Add reserved liquid to your desired consistency.

Cook on high for another hour.

For each of 10 servings:  410 calories, 14 grams of fat, 21 grams of carbs (0 grams of fiber), 50 grams of protein.
